Nugenix Review: Is Testogen Ultimate the Better Choice?

NUGENIX REVIEW · FORMULA COMPARISON

Standard Nugenix combines six active ingredients: three nutrients plus citrulline malate, Testofen and tribulus. Testogen Ultimate provides 13 active ingredients, with every individual amount disclosed. Here, we compare the formulas, the research and the reasons we prefer Testogen.

Published by Testogen, the brand behind Testogen Ultimate. We have a commercial interest in the recommendations below. This assessment compares formulas and research; it is not a personal-use test.

OUR VERDICT

We prefer Testogen Ultimate for the fuller formula.

Nugenix has a good starting point in Testofen, a branded fenugreek extract with human research behind it. But its label gives only a combined weight for Testofen, citrulline malate and tribulus: 2,103 mg. You cannot see how much of each you get.

We would choose Testogen. It gives you 2,025 mg D-aspartic acid, 200 mg KSM-66® ashwagandha and 25 mg zinc, alongside D3, K2, magnesium, boron and other extracts. Every dose is shown. Its premium nutrient forms, short other-ingredients list and history since 2014 also help make the case.

What is Nugenix?

Nugenix T-Booster is the brand's standard free-testosterone supplement. It contains vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and zinc, plus the Nugenix Free Testosterone Complex. The current US product page lists three capsules per serving and 30 servings in the 90-capsule bottle.

This review covers that standard product. Total-T, Total-T2 and Ultimate are different formulas. If the front of your bottle carries one of those names, the ingredient comparison below does not apply to it.

When reading Nugenix reviews, check the exact product name and Supplement Facts panel. The shared brand name makes it easy to compare the wrong bottles.

Nugenix ingredients: what does the formula offer?

Testofen is the ingredient worth looking at closely.

Testofen is a branded fenugreek seed extract, listed here as standardized to 50% Fenuside. That is a useful detail: a named, standardized extract is easier to connect to research than an unspecified herb powder.

A randomized trial in 120 men aged 43-70 tested 600 mg of Testofen daily for 12 weeks. It reported improvements in several symptoms and increases in total and free testosterone compared with placebo. That gives the ingredient a reasonable basis for inclusion. It was an extract study, however, not a trial of this finished Nugenix formula. [1]

Nugenix does not give the separate Testofen amount, so we cannot tell whether it supplies the 600 mg used in that trial.

The blend makes the rest harder to judge.

Citrulline malate and tribulus share that same complex. Without separate amounts, you cannot make a straightforward dose-for-dose comparison with the ingredients used in research.

Tribulus also deserves a more cautious reading than its testosterone reputation suggests. A human study found no significant effect on testosterone or related androgen measures in young men. That does not settle every possible use of the plant, but it weakens the case for treating tribulus as a dependable testosterone-raising ingredient. [2]

Three nutrients, compared with Testogen’s broader range.

Nugenix includes 1 mg zinc alongside B6 and B12. The methylcobalamin form of B12 is a positive formulation detail. However, the product does not list vitamin D3, K2, magnesium or boron. It therefore covers a smaller range of nutrients than Testogen.

Nugenix supplies 1 mg zinc, or 9% of the US Daily Value, compared with Testogen’s 25 mg. That is a much larger nutritional contribution, although extra zinc does not necessarily mean a greater testosterone benefit when your intake is already adequate. [3]

Does Nugenix actually work?

There is encouraging research on Testofen, but it does not tell us what to expect from this Nugenix formula. The study tested a known amount of the extract. Nugenix’s individual Testofen dose is not disclosed.

The same standard applies to Testogen: studies of individual ingredients do not prove that a finished supplement will produce the same results. We prefer its formula, but this comparison does not establish that it raises testosterone more than Nugenix.

Feeling more energetic or noticing a change in libido is not the same as measuring higher testosterone. If you suspect low levels, speak to a clinician about your symptoms and appropriately timed blood tests. [4]

Why we would choose Testogen Ultimate

The main reasons are straightforward: a wider range of nutrients and extracts, clear doses, carefully chosen forms and a vegetable capsule. Here is what those differences mean when choosing between the two.

1. A broader formula with the amounts in plain view

Testogen combines 2,025 mg D-aspartic acid with 200 mg KSM-66 ashwagandha, 100 mg Korean ginseng, 100 mg fenugreek and 80 mg stinging nettle extract. Its nutrient side includes D3, K2, B6, zinc, magnesium, boron and copper, with BioPerine completing the 13-ingredient formula.

All 13 ingredients have their own stated amount. That lets you compare doses directly, including the extracts that Nugenix groups into its blend.

2. Specified extracts and premium nutrient forms

The details are part of Testogen's appeal: KSM-66 ashwagandha, zinc monomethionine, magnesium bisglycinate and citrate, boron and copper bisglycinate, MK-7 vitamin K2 and P5P vitamin B6.

P5P is a coenzyme form of B6, while KSM-66 identifies a specific branded ashwagandha root extract. The named mineral forms give you more detail about what is in each capsule. Nugenix also uses chelated zinc and methylcobalamin B12, both worth noting in a fair comparison.

3. D3, K2, magnesium and more

Testogen's 25 mg zinc sits alongside 80 mg magnesium, 100 mcg vitamin D3, 90 mcg K2, 5 mg boron and 0.5 mg copper. Nugenix's standard formula contains zinc and two B vitamins, but none of those other nutrients.

This is a useful spread of nutrients in one product. Check it against anything else you take: the 4,000 IU vitamin D3 serving reaches the US adult daily upper limit before adding other sources. [5]

4. A vegetable capsule and short other-ingredients list

Testogen's other-ingredients list consists of the vegetable cellulose capsule and Nu-FLOW rice hull concentrate. It does not list gelatin, magnesium stearate or silicon dioxide. Standard Nugenix lists gelatin and magnesium stearate.

If you prefer a vegetable capsule and a rice-derived flow agent, Testogen meets that preference. Magnesium stearate’s presence alone is no reason to judge another supplement unsafe or ineffective.

5. More than a decade of Testogen

Testogen launched in 2014. Ultimate is its fourth-generation formula, so you are buying the current version of a brand with more than a decade of history.

Where does Nugenix have the advantage?

Nugenix uses Testofen, while Testogen uses a different fenugreek extract. We would not claim that Testogen's 100 mg dose is equivalent to the Testofen preparation and dose used in the trial above. If that specific extract is your priority, it is a reason to look closely at Nugenix.

Nugenix also includes B12, which Testogen does not, and its serving is three capsules rather than four. Those are real differences, even though they do not outweigh the broader formula and transparency for us.

There are limits to Testogen's ingredient evidence as well. D-aspartic acid has produced inconsistent human results, including no testosterone increase at 3 g daily in one study of trained men. A frequently cited KSM-66 resistance-training trial used 600 mg daily, above Testogen's 200 mg. Neither study justifies promising its outcomes from Testogen's serving. [6] [7]

Nugenix price vs Testogen: compare a full month's supply

At the stated serving sizes, a 30-day supply is 90 Nugenix capsules or 120 Testogen capsules. Compare days of supply as well as price, since pack sizes vary.

Compare the total delivered price for that 30-day supply, including any subscription commitment. Introductory discounts and multi-bottle offers can change the calculation. Use the current Testogen purchase options and the price of the exact Nugenix pack you intend to buy.

If Testogen costs more in the offer you are comparing, the question is whether its additional nutrients, named forms and vegetable capsule are worth the difference to you. Those are the features we would pay for. Someone buying specifically for Testofen may reach a different decision.

Nugenix side effects and suitability

Nugenix is marketed without stimulants, but that does not mean side effects are impossible. Fenugreek can cause digestive symptoms and allergic reactions, and may affect blood sugar. Check with a pharmacist or clinician if you take medication, particularly diabetes medication. Testogen also contains fenugreek. [8]

Testogen's wider formula needs its own suitability check. Ashwagandha can cause stomach upset or drowsiness, may interact with medicines and is unsuitable for some people with thyroid or autoimmune conditions. Rare liver injuries have also been reported. [9]

Do not stack the two products. Review your total vitamin and mineral intake before starting Testogen, especially its vitamin D3 and zinc. If you have a medical condition or take regular medication, have the full ingredient list checked rather than assuming a natural supplement is automatically suitable.

Nugenix review: common questions

Is Nugenix any good?

The standard formula has a credible feature in Testofen and may appeal to buyers seeking that extract. The individual blend amounts are not disclosed, and it includes fewer nutrients than Testogen. We prefer Testogen Ultimate for a broader, fully disclosed formula.

What is in the original Nugenix formula?

The current standard T-Booster panel lists B6, B12 and zinc, plus a 2,103 mg complex containing citrulline malate, Testofen fenugreek extract and tribulus. It is different from Total-T and the other Nugenix variants.

How long does Nugenix take to work?

The label does not establish how quickly you will notice a change. The Testofen trial discussed here lasted 12 weeks, but that is a study duration, not a promise that Nugenix will deliver a particular result by week 12.

Does Nugenix contain testosterone?

The standard product's listed ingredients do not include testosterone. It is a dietary supplement, not testosterone replacement therapy.

Is Testogen better than Nugenix?

We prefer Testogen Ultimate for its wider ingredient range, clear doses and vegetable capsule. Nugenix has Testofen and B12, which may matter to some buyers. A label comparison cannot prove that Testogen will raise your testosterone more.

Can I take Nugenix and Testogen together?

We do not recommend combining them. They overlap in ingredients, and stacking them makes dose and tolerability harder to manage. Choose a suitable product after checking what you already take.

THE VERDICT

Why Testogen Ultimate is our overall choice

Testofen is a reason to consider Nugenix, particularly if you want that specific extract. For us, Testogen’s wider selection of nutrients and extracts, with a stated dose for each, makes it the more appealing daily product.

Testogen Ultimate is our recommendation. You get premium forms such as KSM-66, P5P and chelated minerals, plus a vegetable capsule with Nu-FLOW. It brings those choices together in the fourth generation of a brand established in 2014.
